HAUNTED BY VISIONS

Romantic/Sexual Orientation: Demiromantic, Demisexual
Gender: Nonbinary (They/Them)
Race: Half-Human, Half-Elven
Family: Adamalis Elu'alhan (Foster Father, Keeper of Clan Elu'alhan), Salu'vun Elu'alhan (Foster Father); Mahelitha (Ancient Elvhen Mother, Presumed Deceased) and Cecil Arden (Human Father, Deceased), Estranged Paternal Family
Height: 5'3''
Weight: 176 lbs
Eye Color: Sky Blue with Grey flakes inherited from their mother
Hair Color: Blond
Class: Mage/Warrior
Specializations: Battlemage, Force Mage, previous training as a Keeper
Main Physical Characteristics: Plethora of birthmarks, mainly 3 distinct ones on their face (right side; one under the eye on the right side, one near the nostril, one under their lip); slightly larger eyes; slightly pointed ears; muscular body with a layer of fat; larger bust and hips, hourglass shaped; long diagonal scar between shoulder blades; soft skin; fluffy, smooth hair; long eyelashes
Conditions: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Dissociative Episodes
Personality: While lacking in social skills due to long periods of isolation and being ostracized, they are sociable and actively listen to what others have to say. Patient and understanding, Maikah cares for the wellbeing of others, even at the expense of themself. They are a curious individual who loves to learn and invest time into creative hobbies. They have a tendency to ramble and go on tangents about a topic, so they enjoy having long discussions even if there’s disagreement. Whether it be because of their nerves or something else, they tend to fidget, most noticeably with their fingers and the material of their gloves. Many of their views and opinions are unconventional in their society, even as a child. However, they are guarded with their upbringing and their issues, so it is not often they are open about themself to others. Once they are, more of their devious personality surfaces, to which they’re more likely to flirt and joke around. Above all else, Maikah values loyalty and would willingly die for the people they care for.
• Type: INFP-T, The Mediator.

ABILITIES
General
Maikah is an intelligent person who uses creative thinking when it comes to problem-solving. They balance both logic and emotion with their decision making, using tactics like pros and cons and other useful tools. They're also quick on their feet and able to adapt to new situations easily.
While they are a skilled mage with various spells under their belt, they are also a warrior who can and will fight in the frontline. They are strong and able to fight with their bare fists.
In battle, they carry the Prismatic Greataxe.
They are also an artist. Their medium of choice is graphite and charcoal. Maikah's art style is reminiscent of François Boucher's sketches, though they emphasize on portraits.
Cooking is also a skill they have, and they have dabbled with alchemy but do not claim they are an alchemist.
Visions
As long as they can remember, they have always had the ability to see into both the past and the future.
In regards to seeing the past, Maikah has to be in an environment where they are sleeping with another person around, as this is specifically involved with being in the Fade and traveling into a person's unconscious memory.
With seeing into the future, they need an object of focus (an item, a person, a structure) with a level of importance and/or power that would trigger a vision.
Visions can also be triggered if a near-death experience is within the near future.
The problems with their visions are that 1) they come with side effects; headaches, vertigo, confusion, and dissociation, 2) most visions are vague enough that they have to focus intensely to gather information from them, and 3) the near-death experiences has caused them trauma.
Battlemage
"Some mages specialize in spells that permit them to engage in combat from afar. Battlemages, by contrast, prefer to wade into the fray alongside their blade-wielding companions, close enough to read the fear in their opponents' eyes. Their spells primarily concern personal preservation as well as control of the elements in their immediate surroundings."
Maikah had been trained by Adamalis, as he is skilled as both a Battlemage and a Keeper.
Spells
Draining Aura: The battlemage thrives in the heat of combat, creating a field that drains life from nearby enemies to heal the mage for as long as the spell is active. Each time an enemy is drained, the spell consumes a small amount of the battlemage's mana.
Hand of Winter: The battlemage releases a burst of intense cold, damaging nearby enemies as well as freezing them unless they pass a physical resistance check, and inflicting a penalty to movement speed otherwise.
Stoic: The battlemage has learned to harness pain and transform it into power, restoring mana whenever the mage suffers damage.
Elemental Chaos: The battlemage creates a field of chaotic, swirling energy that continuously harms nearby enemies with damage from each of the elements in turn for as long as this spell is active. The spell consumes mana rapidly.
Force Mage
"Force mages are a fearsome sight on the battlefield, bending the laws of nature to crush, toss, and debilitate their foes. Kirkwall's Circle houses a higher-than-usual percentage of mages who excel at this specialization, and their combined research has refined the school considerably."
Maikah had been trained by Salu'vun, who learned of this specialization while he was in Kirkwall's Circle.
Spells
Fist of the Maker: The mage slams enemies into the ground with incredible power, against which armor is no protection.
Upgrades: Maker's Hammer - Fist of the Maker now pummels enemies across a larger area. Enemies that have been thrown off-balance by a warrior are particularly vulnerable; Maker's Fury - Fist of the Maker can now be used more frequently.
Unshakable: The mage suppresses the physical and elemental force of incoming attacks, becoming nearly immune to knockdown or other effects that interrupt combat.
Telekinetic Burst: The mage summons a wave of telekinetic force that hurtles enemies away from the core of the blast.
Upgrades: Telekinetic Blast - Telekinetic Burst now generates a more powerful wave of force.
Pull of the Abyss: The mage conjures a maelstrom of energy that draws enemies to its center while slowing them to a crawl.
Upgrades: Edge of the Abyss - Pull of the Abyss now draws in enemies over a larger area.
Gravitic Ring: The mage redirects the gravity in an area to significantly reduce enemies' speed. The closer an enemy is to the center of the spell, the greater the effect.
Upgrades: Gravitic Sphere - Gravitic Ring now affects a larger area.
Keeper
"Every Dalish clan has a keeper, a wise mentor dedicated to preserving the elves' ancient lore. It is exceptionally uncommon for a keeper to teach anyone other than a fellow clan member about the unique Dalish understanding of nature magic, which focuses on control of the roots beneath the earth."
Maikah had been trained by Adamalis as a First. While possessing spells for this specialization, they hardly use them in battle unless absolutely necessary.
Spells
One With Nature: The keeper's bond with the earth creates a defensive shield that immobilizes the keeper for as long as this spell is active, but inflicts nature damage and a penalty to movement speed on any enemy that enters the field.
Thornblades: The keeper calls roots from beneath the earth to inflict physical damage on all enemies within the field created by One With Nature. The roots also knock enemies back unless they pass a physical resistance check.
Replenishment: No living thing can escape the cycle of life; all who fall return to the earth. The mage now regains some health whenever a keeper spell inflicts damage. When an enemy dies within the field of One With Nature, the body is consumed, giving the mage a large bonus to health regeneration for a short time.
Nature's Vengeance: The keeper summons gigantic roots from within the ground to attack all enemies in the area, impaling the opponents for a short time unless they pass a physical resistance check.
Other Spells
Heal: The caster causes flesh to knit miraculously, instantly healing an ally by a moderate amount.
Mind Blast: You send enemies staggering with an explosion of willpower that drives them back and makes them less likely to target you again.
Upgrades: Cleansing Blast - You can now use Mind Blast to remove all negative status effects from yourself.
Energy Barrage: You launch a salvo of elemental blasts from your staff that homes in on targets ahead of you.
Upgrades: Energy Bombardment - Each hit from Energy Barrage lowers the target's resistance to your staff's magic type for a short time.
Conductive Current: The more magical energy you expend, the more damage your spells do.
Wall of Fire: You conjure a flaming barrier that burns and panics enemies that pass through it.
Fade Step: You let invisible waves of magic carry you forward, blurring ahead a short distance.
Winter's Grasp: You lock a target in a sheet of ice, freezing it in place.
Glyph of Repulsion: The mage inscribes the ground with a glyph that repels opponents with a strong wave of physical force.
Barrier: The mage or an ally is enveloped in a telekinetic field that repels significant damage.
Dispel Magic: The mage interrupts enemy spellcasting, removes hostile magical effects from the party, and disables sustained magical abilities from enemies across an area of the battlefield.
Stonefist: The mage hurls a stone projectile that strikes with massive force.
WEAKNESSES
Self
They do not have a positive view of themself. In fact, it's extremely negative, though it is hidden under their general positive persona. Maikah happens to hold a lot of self-hatred, ingrained into them from the years of mistreatment from both elves and humans alike. They are on the road to recovery, but they have their moments where they doubt they are worthy of anything, especially family and love.
Pride
Stubbornness is prominent when it comes to certain situations. They have specific ways of handling a situation, and thus if people get in the way of their methods, they are prone to irritability. Their "lack of achievements and successes" have entitled them into thinking they are incapable of being interesting, of being a friend or more, and they make it their personal responsibility to help others. They also believe they are right and justified in having their negative views of themself.
Drinking
A coping mechanism of theirs. It hinders on their abilities with their visions, so they happen to drink more often than one would think. Before the Inquisition, they only had a bottle of wine that they would take sips from to preserve it as long as possible. Once Skyhold is made the fortress, they will sneak bottles of wine and other drinks into their quarters so they can indulge in private.
Friendship and Romance
They have never really had close relationships outside of the parental relationship their foster fathers provided for them. As such, they have less of an understanding on barriers and acceptable behavior between friends. Not to mention the fact that their experiences has made it hard for them to trust so easily, even if it seems like the opposite.
Even less have they experienced romance. While opportunities have arisen to let them get to know people, their basis on qualifications for a potential romance make it difficult for someone who is used to being reclusive. However, when they fall for someone, they fall hard and the feelings are very hard to change.
Note: This is verse dependent and will change accordingly.
Fear of Complete Isolation
This is their worst fear: the inability to find any sort of home or belonging, thus they are utterly alone. It has been made clear to them that their identity as a half-elf half-human is a "mutation" and that it is unnatural, even for those who are elf-blooded. They are not Elven enough for their people to see them as anything other than a "dull-ear," and humans see them as a lesser being. The thought of roaming Thedas to never find a place where they belong, free to be themself and finding companionship, fills them with dread beyond what one can grasp.
Other Fears
Losing a loved one; being responsible for the failings of the Inquisition, their clan, the Dalish, or the Elves; silent places; being the reason of their suffering.

TRIVIA AND EXTRAS
♡ Their casual outfit consists of an off-shoulder, long sleeve shirt, their gloves, and shorts that end in straps that tie around their calves.
♡ They will hardly be seen without their signature choker and gloves.
♡ They tend to hoard the books from the Secret Library in Skyhold.
♡ They usually refrain from speaking in Elven, but with enough trust, they won't refrain from such.
♡ Maikah hasn't seen their clan in over 10 years. They deny themself the right to see them again.
♡ Eventually, they will ask the Inquisitor to see them, and they also learn of their blood father's family.
♡ Alcohol affects their ability to have visions. They have not tried elfroot or any plant to see if that will have the same results.
♡ They respect their fellow mages, but they are intimidated by almost everyone, so they don't talk with them, as much as they'd like to.
♡ They seem themself as a ghost: not "real" enough, but still haunting the world with their presence.
♡ If people notice they are troubled, they will purposefully turn it around so they can avoid being addressed and focus on the other person.
♡ Spending time with Maikah will always give you approval. To earn their romance, returning the kindness and trusting them is the easiest way to start.
♡ A sign that they are falling for someone is seeing how often they draw said person smiling.
♡ They want to control their visions. They believe the best way to do so is to work with the Fade, but they lack knowledge on where to start.
♡ They love to cook, craft, draw, write, and mess around with various schools of magic.
♡ While they wear enchanted gloves to lessen the likelihood of visions, they also wear gloves because of the materials they use for their art (graphite and charcoal).
♡ Maikah genuinely likes to learn and would get into debates because it's fun.
♡ They write sappy poems.
♡ They like sweets and cheese, and they dislike melons of any sort.
♡ Maikah is very musical and likes to sing. They don't do so often, though they will play with different instruments.
♡ They own drums and a lute.
♡ As a child, Maikah used to draw the Elven Pantheon. They once drew Fen'Harel biting Dirthamen because "he knew where the snacks were but wasn't sharing."
♡ Sometimes when they're focusing hard on a portrait or poem, their tongue will stick out like a cat blepping.
♡ They easily get cold, which is another reason they wear gloves.
♡ They have birthmarks all over their body.
♡ They are kind, but once someone has pissed them off, good luck not getting into a fight.
♡ They are really good with animals! However, ironically, they have issues with foxes.
♡ Maikah has a canon crush, but that depends entirely on who the Inquisitor romances.
♡ The spot where you can find them in Skyhold is in front of the Secret Library.
♡ They're big on cuddling. If you're close to them (and I mean really close), they'll cuddle you at any given chance.
♡ Because of this, they have a lot of pillows! Their bed is rather large for a single person, so they cover the empty space with those. There's also lots of blankets.
♡ They've thought quite a bit about sex, but haven't done anything involving the act.
♡ They want their first time to be with someone they completely trust.
♡ If they have a preference for romantic partners, it's with their ability to be compassionate, empathetic, and determination on helping the world and the people around them.
♡ They also prefer being with a mage or someone who won't be awful to them for being one. This also applies for them being half-Elven, half-Human.
♡ If they like you, expect a lot of compliments and flirting.
♡ If you compliment and/or flirt with them (when they're sober), expect them to get really flustered. (This is encouraged.)
♡ When drunk, they might escalate flirting to being a bit touchy. They are touch-starved, and they have no filter.
♡ They are on the lightweight side with drinking. A whole bottle of wine does it for them.
♡ Maikah prefers sweet drinks, but if need be, they'll take alcohol that's harsh on the throat.
♡ Maikah's approval increases whenever someone displays kindness and compassion to others (especially to mages, elves, and other minority groups).
♡ Maikah's disapproval increases when someone acts cruel and punishes others in inhumane ways.
♡ Other ways one can improve Maikah's approval is: spending time with them, listening to their opinions and responding to them; addressing their presence as important (though not fully for necessity of the Inquisition); and being patient and kind with them.
♡ Answers about their past will not be given to the Inquisitor/others if approval with them is low. The only way to get some bits out of them outside of high approval is if they are drunk.
♡ Maikah is agnostic-atheist. Dissonance with the world has caused them to remove such beliefs from important values.
♡ They are an anarchist. While seeing the world as a beautiful place, they want improvement so that all life is respected and treated as equals.
♡ As much as they have dealt with mistreatment by their clan, they will protect the Dalish. Approval can be gained by the Inquisitor helping Dalish clans.
♡ They get along best with Josephine, Cole, Solas, and Varric.
♡ They are neutral with everyone else. It is rather difficult to make Maikah extremely dislike a person.
♡ They are not proud of having their visions. If anything, they find them to be intrusive, limiting their ability to actually touch people without fearing that they'll stumble into someone's private affairs.
♡ The visions have a weird effect with people in close range while dreaming in the Fade: Maikah can stumble upon their memories. They ward their room to keep this from happening.
♡ Their room has a mechanism that barricades the door instead of using the lock.
♡ The barricade requires Force Magic to open and close. Even so, there's a ward installed to warn Maikah of anyone attempting to break in.
♡ They know more about magic (and the world) than people think they do. They are kind, but they're not ignorant.
♡ If they were in a relationship, Maikah would spend a lot of time with their partner. They would be very affectionate but refrain from doing so if the time/location isn't appropriate.
♡ Maikah would also gift their partners food, art and crafts.
♡ They won't admit it, but they used to really look up to Fen'Harel in secret. This was them being defiant to their clan as a child. As an adult, they are neutral about him.
♡ Had it been a possibility, they would've had Mythal's (simple) vallaslin in a faint teal.
♡ More than likely, they would be one of the people who would join Solas post-Trespasser. They would help find alternatives if possible.
♡ Maikah is soft, as in they have soft skin and their hair is fluffy and smooth. They would probably make a good pillow.
BONDS
INQUISITOR
The relationship between Maikah and the Inquisitor depends on their approval with them.
Low Approval Inquisitors will have to deal with them being distant, often uninvolved with matters unless extremely important. These Inquisitors would have to side with the Templars, let their personal quest go unfulfilled or choose the option that leads to their worst fear, and in their confrontation scene, threaten them with the Rite of Tranquility.
High Approval Inquisitors will have them more involved, more positive and hopeful of the future after Corypheus' defeat. Despite that, they will leave not too long after, disappearing for the next years until Trespasser.
Romanced Inquisitors have a loyal, loving, and protective partner. They will be by the Inquisitor's side until Corypheus' defeat, in which they disappear until Trespasser.

MAINS
Note: I will be accepting two mains for each canon character. Inquisitors, Hawkes, Wardens, and other OCs are exempt from this.
If you wish to be a main, feel free to DM me! I might also forget some people, so please let me know, because my memory is faulty!
Links to these mains are in the name.
Special Relationships
Solas, SaviorOfTheFade
Their beginnings started with Maikah offering assistance to Solas. His friendship is a welcome change, and they treasure it greatly. As they are equally invested in learning about each other, more of their relationship has been developing into a romance.
Cole, fader0gue
Maikah got to know him after waking up in the Herald's Rest. The two have been discussing how to help Solas (@fnhrel). They're friends, and Maikah enjoys Cole's presence immensely.
Solas, fnhrel
The two started their conversation based on Maikah's interest in his Fade studies. They show him their abilities with their visions, and the two end up meeting in the Fade to discuss Maikah's motives. During their time in the Fade, Maikah learns of Solas' identity and becomes an agent of his.
Idrilla Lavellan
Fellow Fox Friends. These two are double trouble.

HAZY BEGINNINGS
Maikah's father was once from a noble family in Orlais, focusing on foreign trading with other countries. During a visit in Ferelden, he met Maikah's mother, an elf from an alienage. Despite the attempts of an arranged marriage by his father, he fell in love with the elf and began his life as a traveling merchant, abandoning his lineage to start a family.
Maikah had been on the road since birth. Most of their memories before the age of "6" (actually 10) are gone, and some years of their life have been repressed to the point they have lost about 4 years of their memories, as a severely traumatic event caused them to repress those memories away: bandits raided their wagon, killing both their parents and a few others. The "bandits" were actually assassins, sent out by Maikah's grandfather to murder them. Out of intense emotions from shock and grief, they used magic and ended up destroying the bandits, but not without killing everyone else.
As the caravan was passing through an area of the Emerald Graves, it got the attention of a nearby Dalish clan, one that the merchants intended to trade with. The Keeper and his partner, Adamalis and Salu’vun, had investigated the area due to the activity and fluctuation in magic, but were shocked to find everyone, except for Maikah, dead. The child was crying, sobbing uncontrollably and refused to talk. The two noticed their elven features and brought them into the clan.
The two elves were mages, and seeing how Maikah was able to use magic as well, trained them to be one. Adamalis, while being a Keeper, was a Battlemage, and Salu’vun was a Force Mage that learned from a Circle he was previously affiliated with. Unfortunately, Maikah could not pick a specialty between the two, but they were gifted enough that they could learn anything. Maikah absorbed whatever knowledge they could and balanced the specializations.
Whether it be for their natural ability to use magic or whatever the reasons, they were able to see brief, vague glimpses into the future. This especially occurred whenever they touched someone or something with importance/power, or in near-death situations, thus they began wearing enchanted gloves to lessen the visions and the side effects: headaches, vertigo, confusion, and dissociation. While it could be a useful tool, most of these visions are vague enough they cannot make sense of the details.
For a while, they managed in the clan, but due to their heritage, they weren't fully welcomed. Other children would poke fun at them and exclude them from games and activities. Unfortunately for the other kids, Maikah would find ways to get back at them, mostly pranking them without getting into too much trouble. The older members of the clan were apprehensive of them and gave them disapproving looks throughout their childhood.
As they grew up, Maikah wasn't allowed to receive the vallaslin, and most of the clan feared they would bring humans into their homes, said humans who had destroyed their lands and enslaved them. Maikah was fully aware of this and accepted how they were treated, even though they did not approve of it. The elders were stuck in their ways, and if they refused to give them a chance, then there was nothing they could do.
Eventually, they left the clan at the age of 16, renouncing their surname and being Adamalis’ First. Both of their adoptive fathers argued for them to stay, but despite their efforts, Maikah abandoned the clan and the culture they were not welcomed in, even going as far to stop using Elven as they saw it as “not [their] culture and language, thus [they] had no right to claim it.”
Since then, Maikah roamed the lands of Orlais and Ferelden, learning about the state of the world firsthand. They took on whatever jobs they could, usually temporary, and gained enough coin to be able to afford their current weapon, cutely nicknamed Iridescent or "Iri."
Their treatment by both elves and humans alike made them unable to find comfort with their mixed heritage. As they were a rarity among elf-blooded humans, being that they phenotypically presented more elven traits and didn't fully appear as human, they often dealt with elves that saw them as a product of elven submission to the humans, and by humans as property or in the lens of fetishization.
Around the time of the Breach, they were investigating the Hinterlands as rogue Templars and Mages fought. They were nearly killed in one of the battles, but managed to survive. Oddly, it was thanks to a jarring vision that disoriented them that they dodged an arrow to the head.
It was there that they encountered the Inquisition. Seeing as a chance to be able to close up the hole in the sky, they offer their aid.
